Hooked on Google

Since Google screwed me on my search engine placement recently, I have resorted to paying for search engine placement. It was something I was probably gonna do anyway to increase the traffic to my sites for the products that are already selling. Anyway, now that I've seen the potential for big earnings, I'm hooked. I'm determined to replace my job income with affiliate commissions. I bought an awesome ebook on adwords several months ago but have been too chicken to use the knowledge until now. Now that I've tried it I'm having great success (on a very small scale) and determined to make this work.

A good way to Learn CSS

Ok, we're back to geek stuff, but this is worth it for people who are not savvy at web design and want to be. I just learned about this cool site called css Zen Garden (it has a google pagerank of 8 [extremely popular], so I may be the last human on earth to find it. but just in case I'm not...) that seems to be a great way to learn css by example. So if you're one of the eleven or so people left on the planet that doesn't visit the site, now you know about it. :-)

I have a dream!

Ok, my dream is not as big as Martin Luther King's but still... Anyway, I suddenly have the need to scan about 400 photographs of varying sizes. Many of which are 50 years old or older. The scanner I have now sucks ass, so I'm looking at a new but cheap one that will get the job done. A quick check at Amazon shows the Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 Color Scanner will be sufficient to do the job. One reviewer at amazon.com said they used it to scan over 1100 photos and it worked flawlessly. That was enough to convince me to give it a shot. I'll post my thoughts about it as soon as I get one and play with it. Should be in the next day or so.

Ok, so I bought some pixels.

I found a site that sells ad space at $0.02 per pixel, so just for fun I bought 500 pixels for $10. Check out the SpeedMath ad at TrumpingAlex.com. It's almost too tiny to read. I don't expect anything to come of it. I just did it so I can say "Been there. Done that."

Can you say "DOH!" ???

This article is proof that there are still ways out there to make huge bursts of money in a short time. This is one of those "Why didn't I think of that!" types of things.

Did I mention I'm into extreme geeking?

One of the ways I spend time "geeking" is by solving the Rubik's cube. Speaking of which, I found an awesome site by one of the world record breakers for Speed Cubing. It shows a technique she created for minimizing the number of turns required to solve the 3x3x3 cube, as well as other stuff including a video clip of her solving the cube in 17 seconds and her visit with a guy who can solve a cube blindfolded after just examining it for a few seconds. It's an awesome site but it's not for your average rubik's cube admirer. More for the hardcore cuber.

The SpeedCubing web site seems like the place to be for anyone interested in improving their solution times. There's a multimedia section that has video clips of people solving cubes in ridiculously fast times, and just about everything else you can imagine and some things you probably can't imagine :-)

Here's another site that has a video of a guy who can solve the cube blindfolded.

Drum-and-bass, anyone?

I could well be the oldest living drum-n-bass fan. Whenever possible, I'm tuned into BassDrive. There's something about that music that helps me focus on what I'm doing. I think there's two things about it that really help me out...
  • Slows down time: Sometimes the music goes so fast it's almost overwhelming. Once you calm down and let it get into you everything seems to go slower.
  • Occupies your brain: I am so easily distracted that I often find myself doing something totally different from what I started out doing. Drum-n-bass has a way of filling all the available resource of your brain so that you can focus on one or two things.
Anyway, just my opinion. Electronic music has always been my thing. I was a producer of techno at one time and was pretty close to starting a record label. The jungle/dnb thing is just the next evolution of techno, putting more emphasis on the complex drums and creating a wider variety of moods from fusion to industrial to sensual to almost demonic flavors with just some basic synth and alot of effects and processors.
